BJP Launches Nationwide Awareness Campaign on Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025


In a significant political and social outreach initiative, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has kicked off a nationwide awareness campaign on the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, aimed at educating the Muslim community and clarifying widespread misinformation surrounding the newly implemented law. The campaign will run from April 20 to May 20, 2025, spanning every state and union territory of India.

Why the Campaign?

The Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025, officially came into effect on April 8, 2025, after receiving the President's assent. This amendment is part of the government's broader agenda to promote transparency, inclusivity, and efficiency in the management of Waqf properties across India.

However, since the announcement, several opposition parties have raised concerns and allegedly misled people regarding the intent and scope of the amendments. To dispel these misconceptions, the BJP launched this awareness drive as a direct dialogue with the Muslim community, particularly focusing on the Pasmanda (backward) Muslim groups, women, and youth.

    The amended law mandates inclusion of multiple Muslim sects and at least two Muslim women in both Central Waqf Council and State Waqf Boards.

    The Central Government now has the authority to regulate registration, auditing, and administration of Waqf properties across the country.

  3. Legal Safeguards:
    The law introduces a provision allowing individuals or organizations to appeal decisions of Waqf Tribunals in the High Court within 90 days.

  4. Focus on Welfare:
    BJP leaders emphasized that this act will ensure Waqf properties are used for genuine welfare and upliftment of poor Muslims, particularly for education, housing, and women’s empowerment.

Political and Social Strategy Behind the Campaign

The BJP sees this as a strategic outreach ahead of crucial assembly elections in Bihar, West Bengal, Assam, Kerala, and Tamil Nadu. BJP National President J.P. Nadda and Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju led a detailed workshop at the party HQ in Delhi to equip 200 party workers and leaders with facts and communication tools.
